Organic

While listening to the song Organic from one of my favorite artist, Stokley (he's underrated by the way), I started to reflect about what that means in terms of relationship. The best way for me to describe it, is to relate it to vegetables. When vegetables are organic, they are all natural. They contain no added hormones to inflate the growth process, no artificial colors to make them appear more colorful than what they should be and no pesticides which is sometimes used to "protect" the vegetables from outside interference or bugs. When pesticides are used and ingested over a period of time, they could cause harm to our bodies. I recently read that root based plants such as carrots and beets take a longer time to sprout than herbs. There is a natural unfolding that should occur, and anything that is contrived within the vegetables will cause them to not reach their full potential. In other words, we should let nature take its course.

This is the way relationships should be allowed to grow and mature. We shouldn't add anything to make relationships appear more than what they are, or rush the process. Anything that's not natural, should not be included in the initial stages or throughout the relationship. We all know that in order to build on anything, you need a foundation, or root, and the strength of that foundation, determines the strength and longevity of the relationship. The initial planting of a relationship requires truth, honesty, and a certain amount of openness to flourish into a healthy strong relationship. I'd rather have a relationship that has a good root like a carrot, than to have one that is leafy and sprouts quickly like an herb. This is true whether we are talking about friendships, business relationships or romantic relationships.

As a caveat, I want to say that in no way do I consider myself a relationship expert. These are just some of my thoughts as I reflect and think back over mistakes I've made in the past, and the wrongs I'm trying to right for my future.
